B & I SNOWDEN-Find a Wealth of Products and Services
|
This research project will greatly enhance my skills as an instructor and
help to keep me updated on the most recent developments in the computer
operating systems area. The areas I
would like to address are the following: 1.
WHAT ARE
SOME OF THE NEW COMPUTERS SYSTEMS 2.
HOW DO
THE SYSTEMS COMPARE TO WINDOWS 3.
WHO USES
THE SYSTEMS 4.
DO YOU
HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SYSTEM
NEW
OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR COMPUTERS:
Some the new operating systems are as follows: 1.
BERKELEY
SOFTWARE DESIGN (BSD) 2.
FREEBSD 3.
GLUNIX
BY UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA 4.
LINUX 5.
QNX 6.
XP
How do the systems compare to windows:
All of the systems are based
on a Unix type of system to reduce the type of system problems that the
windows system is suppose to have such as crashes. In addition, most
of the systems would be free. Most of the windows vs. Unix debate has been cast in which system is technically better and/or cheaper. NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR COMPUTERS
Who uses the operating systems: The Berkeley software design is a commercial Unix based operating system for the x86 pc. The commercial quality Unix system has all of the abilities that one expects of a modern system. Where as the Freebsd is a derivative of Bsd. Glunix is a current workstation operating system. The goal of this system is to provide better performance for both parallel and sequential applications. Linux is a freely distributable implementation of Unix for 80386,80486 and Pentium computers. Qnx is a micro-kernel, real-time fault-tolerant operating system for the x86 computers. Xp is Microsoft new operating system. This system is designed to replace older windows operating systems.
Do you have to pay for the operating systems: Xp is the updated operating system for windows and is copywrited by Microsoft and sold to users. Bsd is also a commercial product and is marketed to customers. Freebsd is just what the name said it is, no cost to the user. Qnx is licensed to users. Glunix is currently at a development stage. Linux is free, the only cost is for the package of the product and books that can come with the commercial product. NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR COMPUTERS: CONCLUSION: There are many kinds of operating systems for computers, but the windows base systems has most of the market. This system is very easy to use in comparison to the other systems. I learned about systems that I did not know of and this has been a valuable experience for me. This research project will help me to do a better job of teaching. Isaac
